From data to design:
How a 95% user insight simplified invoicing for 6,000 freelancers
As a Senior UX designer at the Portuguese Portuguese Tax Authority, I built new user flows for a freelancer app. As a result, we were able to achieve a 4.7 out of 5 score in the app store.

The insight:
Let the data decide
I collaborated on the invoicing application used by 6,000 freelancers every day. This was a data-driven project, in which I created some flows based on user data such as customer and product catalogue and simplified invoice.
Through the data, the team realised that 95% of users needed only basic inputs to generate invoices. This allowed me to create a simplified invoice flow. So, I created a flow that is less complex compared to the complete flow, shorter and without steppers.
The data was important in verifying which inputs were really necessary for most users. At the same time, the data allows the team to better understand user behaviour and guide future improvements to the application, such as getting rid of the complete invoice flow.
The outcome:
Less is more
As a result, a invoice flow was created with less cognitive load and much shorter, based on the user needs and not just the needs of the business.
After implementing this flow, we expect users to spend less time creating invoices. This will enable to maintain a rating of 4.7 out of 5 in the app store.
